Frank Shattuck
|
In 1999, the estate of Frank C. Shattuck made an endowed gift of more than $2 million to Presbyterian Homes of Wisconsin and established an endowment fund. The senior adults who enter the sphere of care offered by Presbyterian Homes of Wisconsin will probably have not met Frank Shattuck. Many will not recognize his name. Yet, Shattuck’s vision-first realized in 1964 and his generosity 30 years later will have significantly contributed to their comfort and care.
Shattuck, a long-time resident of Neenah, Wisconsin was a Presbyterian layman with heart for people in need. This significant gift brings full circle his lifetime interest in the needs of older adults.
As a Presbyterian Homes of Wisconsin Board member, he was instrumental in the launching of Avalon Manor. Through his efforts and the vision of the board on which he served, Presbyterian Homes of Wisconsin purchased the Avalon Hotel in downtown Waukesha. The renovated hotel became Avalon Manor, the anchor of Presbyterian Homes’ growing network of quality residential facilities for senior adults.
Shattuck was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Neenah and a supporter of many Presbyterian causes. His gift to Presbyterian Homes of Wisconsin illustrates his philanthropic ideals. Organizations serving people of all ages and needs-including the YMCA, secondary schools, colleges and universities, museums, his church, his city, performing and fine arts groups, civic programs, facilities and veterans groups have been recipients of Shattuck’s concern. During his lifetime, Shattuck gave millions of dollars to hundreds of organizations and through his estate, many others will also benefit.
Shattuck’s father, S. F. Shattuck, was a founder of Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Neenah. He and his wife Ruth Harwood Shattuck instilled responsibility for wealth and benevolent attitudes in their four children. Frank’s legacy of compassion reflects his parent’s commitment to giving back to people in need.
Frank facilitated the formation of Presbyterian Homes of Wisconsin as we know it today. His generous gift ensures the continuation of that vision well into the future.
In honor of Frank Shattuck, whose gift established an endowment for Presbyterian Homes of Wisconsin, the Presbyterian Homes Foundation, is creating the Frank Shattuck Society.
Individuals, couples or organizations contributing $500 a year or more will be enrolled in the Shattuck Society. Donors whose gifts are made during the 12 months ending on December 31 will receive recognition as Shattuck members and will be published annually in Frontiers for Senior Living and will be listed on the corporate donor wall unless they prefer to remain anonymous. Shattuck Society members will be invited to the annual recognition and other special events. Lifetime membership in the Shattuck Society will be awarded to donors whose accumulated gifts reach $5000.
Donors may earmark their gifts for a special purpose or a specific community or may leave their gifts undesignated to be used where needed most.
