All charitable gifts are meaningful, but certain gifts can have added significance for you and for Presbyterian Homes. These gifts called planned gifts, deferred or estate gifts often provide income tax advantages for the donor. People of any income or estate size can express important values by including Presbyterian Homes or other organizations in their estate plans. Any gift, whether immediate or deferred, can have special significance by being given in memory or in honor of a friend, loved one, or favorite staff member.
Several planned gift options are available.
Bequests
A bequest can be outlined in a will or added to an existing will as a codicil. It can be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of an estate, or the residue of an estate.
Beneficiary Designations of Retirement Accounts and Insurance Policies
One of the simplest ways to make a significant gift in the future is to name Presbyterian Homes to receive all or a portion of an insurance policy or retirement account. This gift often provides tax advantages for the donor. Your tax, legal or financial advisor can assist you with this option.
Life Estate
If you own your home, farm, or vacation home, you may be able to give the property, obtain an immediate income tax deduction, and continue using the property as long as you wish. Give the property to Presbyterian Homes but retain the right to use it for your life. After your death, Presbyterian Homes will assume the ownership rights.
Charitable Gift Annuities
Working with the Presbyterian Church (USA) Foundation, the Presbyterian Homes Foundation is pleased to provide charitable gift annuities as a flexible and useful planned giving option. Charitable gift annuities provide income to you for your lifetime. The annuity payments are based on the gift amount and your age. A portion of each payment is usually tax-free. The gifts are irrevocable.
Charitable Remainder Trusts
A CRT provides you with payments for your lifetime, or a set term of years. These payments can be made to you or one or more recipients you name. After your lifetime, the remaining trust assets become available for Presbyterian Homes' work, according to your wishes. Charitable remainder trusts are irrevocable.
Honoring our Donors
The Triangle of Caring Friends and the Frank Shattuck Society
At Presbyterian Homes Foundation, we honor donors who make any type of planned or estate gift with a membership into to the Triangle of Caring Friends a living legacy society. The legacy society was created to pay tribute to this unique group of people who have made a commitment to future generations of seniors. Each year we invite members to special events to celebrate their gifts. Members are published annually in Frontiers for Senior Living a biannual publication of Presbyterian Homes of Wisconsin.
